Debt Counselor

We are looking for a competent Debt Counselor with a few years of debt management and debt restructuring experience. As a debt counselor, you will have to deal with clients where the debts have probably already got out of hand. You actively work with the client to map the situation and solve the problems. By means of a concrete plan, you guide the client with the handling and elimination of serious financial debts, so that the client can make a fresh start again.

Our Debt Counselor should exhibit professionalism and trustworthiness. You should have excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as an ability to work independently.



  • Conducting intake interviews with clients
  • Determine clients spending and debt pattern and the possible causes
  • Conduct oral and written negotiations with creditors, bailiffs, lawyers
  • Drafting approach plans
  • Stabilizing and coaching clients
  • Draft payment proposals
  • Help the client to carry out the plan of action well by means of guidance and information so he/she is debt-free as soon as possible
  • If needed, issue possible deployed moratorium or compulsory agreement
  • Maintain departmental production standard and adhere to company policies & procedures
  • Provide immediate feedback to management in regard to accounts that require ‘special handling’
  • Perform additional projects and duties as assigned
  • Perform related tasks as assigned by management


Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience as Debt Counselor or similar role (minimum of 2 years or recent experience)
  • At least Intermediate Vocational Education (MBO) degree required
  • Excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate in Dutch, English, Spanish and Papiamentu
  • Familiarity with laws related to debt management and debt restructuri
  • Possess the ability to work in a team environment, to accomplish individual and company service goals
  • Practices high attention to detail, when following company procedures and ensures full accuracy in documentation to data
  • Comfortable working with targets
  • Patience and ability to manage stress
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Have good negotiation skills
  • Good at solving problems
